Matt’s Committee – Short History
In 2013 Fr. Ron gave everyone at a Christmas Mass, a copy of The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic, by Matthew Kelly. The following summer, he invited about 25 parishioners to attend a lecture by Matthew Kelley, at Catholic Central High School, on condition that they would attend a meeting later, to discuss the impact on our Parish. At that meeting, in September 2014, it was suggested that some of us would form a committee to implement a four year program based on the four signs: Prayer, Study of our Catholic Faith, Generosity, and Evangelization. Six of us initially responded, a few others joined for awhile, and now we are four: Cathy Perisich, Sue Stoeger, Tony Graham and Sr. Margaret Bischoff, SP. The Director of Religious Formation for OLS also participates. We are named Matt’s Committee” in reference to Matthew Kelly. We brainstorm ideas, recommend them to the Parish Council and help implement them.
Committee Purpose Statement:
Create structure around the long term program of exploring the 4 categories of the Dynamic Catholic: prayer, study, generosity, and evangelization. Promote a welcoming atmosphere for new, current, and prospective parishioners. Look at opening some doors of involvement for our parishioners. In opening those doors, give consideration to all ages and cultural groups within our parish.
Last year through a parish survey and brainstorming meetings, we helped develop ideas enhancing personal prayer life, as well as our Liturgical Prayer as a community of Faith. This year we’ve been encouraging Study of our Faith, things like the “Study Page” in the bulletin, Father’s ‘History’ series, the Lenten study sessions, and the Bible Study class hosted by Rodrigo.
