Youth faith formation and Confirmation

- Faith Formation

We invite all the youth confirmed and non-conformed to join us in this fun ongoing formation about our faith. Discussions and conversation around faith issues and general Christian life are welcome. Here at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, preparation classes for those teens who want to be Confirmed begin in October, and continue through the spring, when the Sacrament is then celebrated. Those who need confirmation must attend the program for two years so that they are properly prepared. Classes are Wednesday evenings from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the Parish Office. Because we are a smaller-sized parish, we usually join with a neighboring parish on the day of the Confirmation Mass.

We use The Sacrament of Confirmation from The Didache Series, combined with videos from FORMED.org, as the foundation of our curriculum.

In the classes, the students learn the following:
- Why the Sacrament of Confirmation is important
- How God reveals himself to Man
- The History of Salvation
- Why God sent his Holy Spirit
- How the Church is God's Sacrament of Salvation
- The importance of the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation
- The Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit
- How to live a "life in the Holy Spirit" following reception of the Sacrament
In addition to attending class, each student must complete a service project, spend one full day engaged in an act of service and charity, and participate in a retreat experience.

To register your teen for these preparation classes, just fill out the Confirmation registration form, and return it to us at the office with the $50 per student registration fee ($75 per student for non-parishioners).
