Religious Education is all about sharing the Good News that our Heavenly Father has entrusted to us, and evangelizing the young people of our Church.
Here at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, religious formation for our children is offered in two primary forms: (1) Catechism classes for children in grades 1 through 8, and (2) Confirmation classes for teens who wish to receive this important Sacrament. To learn more about these classes, the book programs they use, what is taught, when they are held etc., just click on their names in the menu in the top left corner of this page.
Do you like working with children? Can you read a bible story to them? Can you prepare a simple craft activity? Can you work as a team member? Can you set aside time on Sunday mornings between the 8:30 and 11:00 Masses to work with the children in our parish? Do you need volunteer hours as part of your high school requirements? Are you interested in learning more about your faith? Here is an opportunity to share your gifts and talents.
“Catechists have always had a very important role in the secular journey of evangelization. Even today they are considered to be irreplaceable evangelizers, as the encyclical Redemptoris Missio [Mission of the Redeemer] so rightly states.”
--Guide for Catechists, Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, 1993.
If you are interested in volunteering as a catechist, then please contact Stella Armstrong, Coordinator of Faith Formation, in the Parish Office at (503) 775-6731, Ext. 103.
